In 2019, the Board of Trustees approved University Senate adding 5 voting members to advocate on behalf of staff on the University Senate. The University Staff Advisory Committee (USAC) has been tasked with electing the five (5) Staff Senators to serve on the University Senate. The University Senate is comprised of 141 voting members including faculty, staff, students and administrators, the Senate’s primary responsibility is to advise campus leaders on the key educational and academic policy concerns.
As important issues develop across campus, the University Senate is positioned to create solutions that will help move the university forward. Through our shared governance model, the Senate and its committees connect students, faculty and staff to administrative offices where they can have a voice in key decisions.
Common Resposibilites for All Senate Members:

Act as the ambassador of the senate and the university to both external and internal audiences.

Respect confidentiality when entrusted with such information.

Advance opinions in a convincing non-confrontational manner, respecting academic freedom.

Advocate the best interest of your constituents and of the university.
For the inaugural year a staff appointment to University Senate is either a one-year or two-year term, with the option of a one-term renewal. Details and information on the application process are posted below with the application window closing on Friday, June 28 at 5 pm.
